tonanluna
The design objective of this project is to create a planter which is tailored specifically for neurodivergent individuals in an attempt to help them properly care for a plant. Providing a visually engaging design serves as an intuitive reminder system for plant care. The planter incorporates a unique tilting mechanism which responds to the amount of water placed within its chamber, signaling when the plant within it is in need of water. This design seeks to address memory challenges faced by neurodivergent people in reminding them when to care for their plant via visual cues. Additionally, the planter is intended to form a closer relationship between plants and humans, empowering them to become closer to nature and recieve its therapeutic benefits.
Two high fidelity models were created for the TonanLuna planter. One of them is the intended look of the design , made of polyurethane foam. The second model is the “works like” version of the design made of air dry clay. Because of limited time and access to materials, a ceramic (the intended material used for the design) could not be manufactured. These two models are made to act together, with the intention of conceptually creating the intended planter design.
